An exclusive conversation conducted by Atlantic Council (Africa Center )  with Special  US president Assistant, and Senior Director to African Affairs Judd Devorment to the president for African Affairs at the National Security Council (NSC).

He briefed on the  latest efforts by Biden administration towards Africa, and Washington DC  pushing for implementation of recent promises to the Continent

After years of stagnation in US-Africa relations, the Biden administration seems to be making a real concerted effort to engage the continent with a new strategy towards Sub-Saharan Africa.

US 2023 Strategy  Towards  Africa 

The Strategy includes Health, Education, Business and Democratic Transition Support

SD to African Affairs in his opening address stated that the  US unlike other partners treat Africa like the subject of geopolitics,  he added that the African continent is very promising to the world and the US seeking to work actively with Continent .

Furthermore, he highlighted on recent  US Africa Summit which had taken place in Washington DC, he remarked on some points that had been discussed lately at the Summit which are.

• US Support AU to join the G20 .
• Africa to have permanent representation in the UN Security Council .
• Partnership with AU on Food Security .
• Lunching of Initiative on digital transformation .
• Program on Support Democratic Transition .
• Presidential advisory Council on Africa Diaspora engagement .
• 55 billion dollars in Assistance in the upcoming 3 years.
• Multilateral Development .
• Baking for reforming Bretton Woods Institution .

On Climate Change policy,  Juddy reaffirmed that the US stands with  Africa  to tackle climate change, he added that at Cop27 US donated 155 million dollars and the US has talked about climate adaptations and energy transition .

On Promoting Democracy, Judd reaffirms US commitment and stands towards countries which  are currently in transition to Democratic elections, he added that 70 % of Africans supports democracy according to some data .

Furthermore, he outlined that this year seven Africans are preparing to hold a presidential elections Nigeria, DR Congo, Zimbabwe, Gabon, Liberia, Sierra Leonean and Madagascar US will stand and monitor the process.

He spoke about six countries who have not attended the recent Summit, as they engaged with whole countries,   adding  that the suspicion comes from the regional body AU, and the United States seeking to coordinate with them, for instance, the US has full engagement with Sudan and Civil Society Groups even though Sudan wasn’t invited to the Summit.

In Conclusion,  Judy disclosed that this year highly delegates from the US will visit Africa,  which will e composed of President Biden, Frist lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kalama Harris,  Security of Defense Luy Astun and diplomats,  but he didn’t disclose which country nor give a timeline on their trips to the continent.
