Prime Minister Declares Education a National Priority, Announces Landmark Measures for Teachers

As part of continued efforts to address the issues facing public education workers, Minister of Education and National Pedagogy, Professor Tehami Elzain Hajar, successfully arranged a meeting at the Council of Ministers on Thursday, July 30.

During the meeting, the General Union of Public Education Workers in Sudan submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris through the Minister of Education. The memorandum outlined and analyzed the issues related to salaries and outstanding financial entitlements of public education workers. Following discussions, both the union and the minister agreed that the memorandum would serve as the appropriate basis for addressing these concerns.

The Minister subsequently arranged a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris, who praised the union’s proposals and its suggested solutions. To ensure comprehensive discussions and reach practical decisions, the Prime Minister requested the attendance of the Ministers of Finance and Federal Governance.

Their participation enriched the discussions, and all parties reached a consensus on measures to address teachers’ concerns.
The Prime Minister issued the following decisions:
Immediate implementation of all Council of Ministers’ decisions and Civil Service Bureau circulars related to teachers.

Commencement of payment of outstanding financial arrears starting in August, according to a schedule to be completed by the end of the 2026 fiscal year.
Exemption of the children of public education workers from examination fees for primary, intermediate, and secondary school certificate examinations.
Centralization of salary payments for public education workers beginning in January 2027.

The General Union of Public Education Workers in Sudan expressed its appreciation to Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris for his positive response, his strong commitment to teachers, and his pledge to keep the doors open for addressing education-related issues.

The union also commended the significant efforts of Minister of Education and National Pedagogy Professor Tehami Elzain Hajar, as well as Minister of Finance Dr. Gibril Ibrahim and Minister of Federal Governance Kertikila, for their contributions to resolving the sector’s challenges.

The union reaffirmed the support of its entire membership for the Sudanese Armed Forces and the supporting forces until peace and victory are achieved across Sudan.
