Launch of the 2026 Integrated Nutrition Campaign Review and Planning Meeting

Khartoum –The 2026 Integrated Nutrition Campaign Review and Planning Meeting officially commenced this morning at the Holiday Villa Hotel in Khartoum. The two-day event is organized by the National Nutrition Program under the Maternal and Child Health Department of the General Directorate of Primary Health Care at the Federal Ministry of Health. It brings together staff from the National Nutrition Program, Health Promotion Departments, Reproductive Health Coordinators, and Neglected Tropical Diseases Coordinators from the states, both in person and virtually.
Dr. Asmahan Al-Khair, Director of Maternal and Child Health, stated that consultation, dialogue, transparency, and careful review of every detail of previous integrated nutrition campaigns contribute to improving the quality and effectiveness of future campaigns. She emphasized the importance of teamwork to achieve the campaign objectives.
Dr. Al-Khair also praised the National Nutrition Program for its activities over the past period, noting that they have contributed to improving nutrition indicators. She called for greater focus on the health and nutrition of adolescents.
Dr. Amal Mahmoud, Director of the National Reproductive Health Program, highlighted the importance of evaluating previous campaigns to inform the development of future guidelines. She stressed the need for assessment, replanning, and the involvement of all stakeholders within a framework of integrated roles and mutual support, while commending the contribution of development partners.
Meanwhile, Ms. Tawaddud Abdalla Al-Khidr, Director of Health Promotion, underscored the importance of integrating health promotion with nutrition in order to ensure sound campaign planning and effective implementation. She affirmed the department’s commitment to collaboration, saying, “We extend our hands to everyone.”
For his part, Dr. Khalid Al-Tahir of UNICEF reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to working alongside the Federal Ministry of Health, state ministries, and partners to improve nutrition indicators. He praised the achievements made despite the challenges and hardships, noting that the campaign’s success in reaching children wherever they are represents a significant accomplishment.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the results of the Integrated Nutrition Campaign, identified its strengths, weaknesses, and challenges, discussed proposed solutions and recommendations, and outlined the guidelines for the campaign’s second round.
