Salva Kiir Invites Al-Burhan to Visit Juba to Discuss Border Issues and Establish Trade Zones

Head of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, received a message on Wednesday in Khartoum from the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, delivered by his Security Advisor, Tut Galwak.

Galwak explained in a press statement that he conveyed an oral message from Kiir to Head of the Sovereignty Council concerning ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and issues related to the peace and stability process in both Sudan and South Sudan.

He added that the meeting addressed issues related to the transport and transit of South Sudanese oil through Sudan, supporting and strengthening joint cooperation, and efforts to support peace and stability initiatives.

The advisor to the President of South Sudan stated that he had extended an official invitation from President Salva Kiir Mayardit to Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to visit Juba. The purpose of the visit is to discuss the prospects for relations in the coming period, reach understandings on several issues, achieve stability in the border regions, and establish joint trade zones to benefit both nations.

The meeting between al-Burhan and Gatluak was attended by the Director General of the General Intelligence Service, Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal; the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Muawiya Othman Khalid; the Director of Military Intelligence, Lieutenant General Mohamed Ali Ahmed Sabir; and the Sudanese Ambassador to South Sudan, Lieutenant General Essam Mohamed Hassan Karar.
