SSMO Enhances Laboratory Capacity Through Advanced Equipment Training Workshop

Port Sudan – The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) has organized a specialized training workshop in Port Sudan on the operation of newly installed state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, reinforcing its commitment to modernizing laboratory infrastructure, strengthening technical capacity, and ensuring safe laboratory practices in accordance with international standards.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, SSMO Director General Rahba Saeed Abdullah said that enhancing laboratory performance remains a strategic priority for the Organization, describing its laboratories as the foundation of the technical and regulatory services it provides.
“Our goal is for SSMO laboratories to become Sudan’s leading national reference laboratories,” she said, noting that the newly introduced equipment will significantly improve the accuracy and reliability of testing results, streamline laboratory procedures, enhance occupational safety, and provide a safer working environment for laboratory personnel.
She explained that the training is designed to enable technical staff to operate the new equipment efficiently and fully utilize its advanced capabilities, thereby increasing operational efficiency and improving service quality. She reaffirmed the Organization’s commitment to continuous professional development and capacity-building programs to keep pace with scientific and technological advancements.
The workshop brought together 20 laboratory technicians and specialists representing various sectors and regional branches. Participants received both theoretical instruction and practical hands-on training in the operation and maintenance of the equipment supplied and installed by a specialized German company.
The initiative is part of SSMO’s broader program to upgrade its laboratory network, strengthen Sudan’s national quality infrastructure, enhance consumer protection, and support sustainable economic development.
