Omdurman Opens New Community Center to Boost Local Development and Livelihoods

Omdurman, Sudan / Sudan’s Ministry of Social Development has inaugurated the West Suleimania Community Center in the Salha area of Omdurman, marking a new step toward strengthening community development, expanding social protection, and supporting livelihoods in rural communities.

The inauguration was attended by the Acting Minister and Director General of the Ministry of Social Development, Sadiq Hassan Farini, the Executive Director of Omdurman Locality, Saif El-Din Mukhtar, community leaders, representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, women’s and youth groups, and families of martyrs.

During the ceremony, Farini announced a package of immediate interventions, including the expansion of direct cash assistance to vulnerable families, the launch of a joint financing program for small-scale agricultural and household livestock projects, and the provision of furniture and equipment for the new center.

He also pledged support for vocational training programs selected by local women and youth and the establishment of part of a youth center in the area.
Mukhtar emphasized that the locality’s priorities are improving security, delivering essential services, and creating employment opportunities.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse through community awareness programs and productive livelihood initiatives, stressing that the new community center will serve as a hub for training, social programs, and economic empowerment.

Officials described the center as a focal point for implementing poverty reduction programs, managing cash assistance, supporting microfinance projects, and identifying vulnerable households, including orphans and low-income families.

The event also included visits to the families of those who lost their lives during the conflict, where they were honored in recognition of their sacrifices.
