West Darfur Governor, National Health Insurance Fund Discuss Post-War Health Recovery and Expanded Coverage

The Governor of Central Darfur State, Commander Mustafa Tambour, praised the interventions implemented by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to provide healthcare services for the state’s displaced residents. He stressed the importance of early preparations for the post-war phase through the rehabilitation of the health sector and the restoration of medical services across the state.
The remarks came during his visit to the NHIF headquarters in Khartoum, where he met with the Fund’s Director General, Dr. Farouk Nour Al-Daem, and senior officials. The two sides reviewed the challenges facing the health sector in Central Darfur and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation during the recovery and reconstruction period.
Tambour noted that the war had caused extensive damage to the state’s health infrastructure, making it essential to intensify efforts to rehabilitate healthcare facilities and restore services for citizens. He emphasized that the NHIF should play a central role in the post-war recovery by expanding health insurance coverage, supporting the operation of healthcare institutions, and ensuring access to medical services in conflict-affected areas.
For his part, Dr. Farouk Nour Al-Daem affirmed that the people of Central Darfur remain a top priority for the Fund, emphasizing its continued commitment to ensuring healthcare ser
vices under all circumstances.
He explained that the NHIF has developed a comprehensive plan, in coordination with partners, to provide healthcare services to citizens, drawing on the experience gained since the outbreak of the war, including the implementation of free medical interventions in several states.
He added that, in line with Cabinet directives, the Fund has begun establishing and operating clinics inside displacement camps, where healthcare and treatment services are already being provided in a number of locations.
He noted that the current challenge lies in extending services to displaced people living within host communities and confirmed that coordination is ongoing with the relevant authorities to register displaced persons and ensure they receive the healthcare they need.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health and Social Development of Central Darfur, Dr. Mudathir Adam Ahmed, described the NHIF as a longstanding strategic partner of the state’s health sector, highlighting its significant contribution to providing healthcare services before the war.
He commended the Fund’s wartime interventions, particularly the services delivered to displaced people in shelters and displacement camps, which helped ease the suffering of citizens and ensured continued access to healthcare despite the exceptional circumstances.
The minister expressed the state government’s aspiration to further strengthen the Fund’s role in the coming phase by improving health services, supporting the localization of specialized medical care through the provision of specialists and healthcare personnel, and rehabilitating health facilities damaged by the war.
In turn, the Director of the NHIF in Central Darfur, Dr. Haider Hashim, stated that the Fund had carried out extensive interventions to serve the state’s displaced residents in safer states, including renewing health insurance cards to ensure uninterrupted access to treatment.
He confirmed that all Central Darfur residents living in displacement camps are entitled to benefit from health insurance services. He added that the Fund has developed a comprehensive post-war vision focused on restoring healthcare services, expanding insurance coverage, and strengthening coordination with the state government to register displaced persons—particularly those in Khartoum State—to facilitate the issuance and renewal of health insurance cards and ensure that services reach all eligible beneficiaries
