Geological Research Authority and Northern State Agree to Accelerate Geological Work and Enhance Mining Investment

The General Authority for Geological Research and the Government of Northern State, represented by the Ministry of Urban Planning and Infrastructure, have agreed to move forward in strengthening their strategic partnership by expediting the implementation of the geological survey project in the state and establishing a central reference laboratory to support the mining sector.
The Director-General of the General Authority for Geological Research, Consulting Geologist Ahmed Haroun Al-Toum, stated during his meeting on Tuesday with the Northern State Minister of Urban Planning and Infrastructure, Engineer Mohamed Sid Ahmed Faqiri, that the geological survey project in the state will commence in the coming period after completing the technical arrangements and office preparations for the mission.
He explained that the project aims to identify and assess mineral resources in the state in preparation for presenting them as investment projects, contributing to maximizing the benefits of mineral resources and supporting the national economy.
The Director-General also revealed a plan to establish a central reference laboratory in Northern State as part of the 2027 budget, in addition to organizing a specialized training course on mining sector regulations for state-level employees, in coordination with the Ministry of Minerals headquarters, with the aim of enhancing institutional capacities and improving performance efficiency.
Meanwhile, the Director of the General Administration of Financial and Human Resources, Mr. Essam El-Din Babiker, affirmed that the authority continues implementing its program to rehabilitate and develop its offices across the states, noting that 2027 will witness the completion of development operations, which will support geological surveys, exploration activities, and improve technical and administrative services.
For his part, the Northern State Minister of Urban Planning and Infrastructure, Engineer Mohamed Sid Ahmed Faqiri, emphasized that the mining sector represents one of the main pillars of the state’s economy. He called on the authority to support technical studies for the mining block allocated to the state and provide the necessary geological data, especially as the state has received offers from companies seeking to enter into promising investment partnerships.
