Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare Announces Humanitarian Interventions in North Darfur

The Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Moatasim Ahmed Salih, chaired a coordination meeting attended by the Governor of North Darfur State, Al-Hafiz Bakhit Mohammed, a representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, the Secretary-General of the Federal Zakat Chamber, Dr. Yahya Al-Qamrawi, and members of the North Darfur Support Committee.
The meeting discussed mechanisms for delivering essential services to citizens in North Darfur, with particular focus on the localities of Al-Tina, Umbaru, and Karnoi.
The Minister commended the resilience of the Sudanese Armed Forces, the Joint Forces, and all supporting forces, while praising the state government’s coordination with the federal government to support affected communities.
Salih stressed that providing assistance to citizens in Al-Tina, Umbaru, and Karnoi is an urgent priority. He noted that the militia has been systematically obstructing government services in an attempt to reinforce the perception that the state is incapable of meeting citizens’ needs.
The Minister emphasized that access to healthcare services, including medicines and protection for medical personnel, the continuation of education, the provision of safe water, environmental sanitation, and food security are fundamental humanitarian rights.
He called for both direct and indirect service delivery through a framework that ensures the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian assistance. He also instructed the formation of a committee comprising executive directors and members of the Darfur Support Committee to assess humanitarian needs and develop mechanisms for delivering aid.
Salih pledged to mobilize diplomatic and public support to strengthen humanitarian assistance and reaffirmed the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare’s commitment to implementing the committee’s recommendations in coordination with relevant stakeholders. He also stressed the ministry’s full commitment to carrying out social and health interventions aimed at improving the humanitarian situation.
For his part, the Governor of North Darfur reviewed the major challenges facing humanitarian operations and called for increased support for citizens, particularly in the northwestern parts of the state and those currently sheltering in eastern Chad.
He praised the positive reception and support extended by Chadian communities to displaced Sudanese and expressed hope for greater assistance in the areas of education, food security, and healthcare.
The Governor added that the state has completed the registration of displaced persons residing in the states of Kassala, White Nile, Northern, Khartoum, and Gedaref in preparation for the delivery of assistance by the government and humanitarian organizations. He also commended the Minister’s continued support for displaced people wherever they are located.
