Two Power Stations Restarted in Khartoum

Khartoum State witnessed the restart of the Soba and Banat power substations today. The official restart ceremony was graced by Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris, accompanied by the Minister of Energy, Engineer Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, and the Governor of Khartoum, Mr. Ahmed Othman Hamza.

According to the Ministry of Energy, this step comes within the framework of the government’s commitment to supporting reconstruction and recovery efforts in all vital sectors of the country.

The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the electricity sector workers and their role in reconstruction, noting that these achievements confirm the Sudanese people’s ability to rebuild despite the systematic destruction and devastation caused by the war imposed on the country.

Idris affirmed the government’s support for the electricity sector due to its crucial role in driving the country’s economic development.

For his part, Minister of Energy, Engineer Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, stated that the Ministry of Energy’s staff would spare no effort in rebuilding the electricity sector. He noted that restarting the Bant and Soba power stations and connecting them to the national grid would contribute to improving the stability of the electricity supply throughout the country.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for his follow-up and support of the Ministry’s efforts in rebuilding the electricity sector.

It is worth noting that many power stations and infrastructure were damaged as a result of the war waged by the Rapid Support Forces militia against the Sudanese army since April 15, 2023.
