Minister of Justice: Intellectual Property is a Fundamental Pillar for Supporting Innovation and Sustainable Development

طThe Minister of Justice, Dr. Abdullah Darf, stated on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day that intellectual property is a fundamental pillar for supporting innovation and sustainable development.
In his speech marking World Intellectual Property Day, observed annually on April 26, he added that this occasion represents an important opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of protecting creativity and innovation, as well as the role of intellectual property in supporting socio-economic development.
Darf pointed out that this global day, established by the World Intellectual Property Organization, highlights the importance of fostering a culture of respect for the rights of creators and innovators, encouraging investment in creative ideas, and transforming them into productive projects with added value.
This year’s celebration comes under the theme: “Intellectual Property and Sports: Feel the Beat of IP” (or “Ready, Set, Innovate”), reflecting the growing role of intellectual property in supporting the sports sector by protecting innovations and modern technologies, and enhancing industries related to sports.
He further explained that the Ministry of Justice continues its efforts to develop legislative frameworks related to intellectual property and strengthen law enforcement mechanisms to ensure the protection of creators’ and innovators’ rights, while creating a legal environment that encourages creativity and investment.
He also emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about intellectual property, especially among young people, as they are the driving force for a knowledge- and innovation-based future. He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the intellectual property system in the country in a way that contributes to sustainable development and strengthens the knowledge-based national economy.
The Minister called on all creators and innovators in Sudan to benefit from intellectual property systems to protect their work and transform their ideas into productive projects that contribute to the country’s progress. He renewed the Ministry’s commitment to developing the intellectual property system and enhancing societal awareness in line with global developments.
For her part, Ms. Nadia Abu Bakr, Registrar General of Intellectual Property at the Ministry of Justice, noted that intellectual property is a key pillar of economic development, as it promotes creativity, attracts investment, and supports a knowledge-based national economy.
