Sudan Announces Extension of Adré Border Crossing for Three Months

The Sudanese government announced on Tuesday the extension of the Adré border crossing on the Sudanese-Chadian I border for humanitarian aid delivered by international relief organizations. The extension will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, April 1st, and will last for three months, ending on June 30th.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation stated in a press release today that this step confirms the Sudanese government’s commitment and ongoing efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected throughout Sudan. It also underscores the government’s commitment to coordinating with relief organizations operating in Sudan in accordance with the regulations and laws governed by international humanitarian law.

The government statement added that the decision to extend the opening of the Adre crossing is in line with its policies and its positive engagement with sisterly and friendly countries and international institutions keen on achieving security and stability in Sudan. It also expressed its aspiration to strengthen coordination with international and national institutions regarding arrangements for regulating humanitarian work in Sudan in general and at the Adre crossing in particular.
