PM and his delegation meet with the Northern State government and its security committee

Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris chaired a joint meeting of the Northern State government’s cabinet and security committee in Dongola today (Tuesday) at the Northern State government headquarters. The meeting was attended by the Governor of the Northern State, Lieutenant General Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid, and members of his government.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the Northern State has a promising future in national investment, and explained that 2026 will be a year of peace, reconstruction, and investment.
He emphasized that voluntary return and national sovereignty are two sides of the same coin, noting that this visit focuses on the overall policies for voluntary return to the country. He pointed out that the Northern State will play a leading role in voluntary return due to its geographical location.
The Prime Minister directed the formation of a joint working committee between the Federal Cabinet and the Northern State to discuss reports from specialized sectors and address the state’s various issues.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation received a comprehensive briefing on the security, economic, social, and health conditions in the state.
The meeting reviewed the state government’s efforts in implementing development projects, ensuring a successful harvest season, accommodating large numbers of displaced persons, and receiving citizens returning to the country as part of the voluntary repatriation program.
The meeting affirmed the necessity of overcoming obstacles facing the state government in the areas of energy, infrastructure, land, and investment.
The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Justice, Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries, and Digital Transformation and Communications, as well as the Undersecretary of Culture at the Ministry of Culture and Information, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Director General of Police, the Director General of Customs, the Director of Border Crossings, and the Director of the Economic Security Authority.
