Death Sentence for Rapist of a Child in Sinja

The General Court of Sinja, presided over by Maulana Abdullatif Adam Mohamed Ali, issued today a death sentence by hanging to the defendant (AAIM) for violating Articles 45/B and 86/F of the Child Law of 2010. The defendant lured an 8-year-old child into his home and raped him.

The child’s mother filed a criminal case with the Family and Child Protection Unit in Sinja, Sennar State, after investigations and trial, the death sentence was issued.

The court justified this by stating that the crime is foreign to Sudanese society and does not resemble its tolerant traditions and customs. The accused is an adult man who is expected to exhibit dignity and not engage in such ugly behavior. Additionally, the victim is an orphan child who deserves care and sponsorship.

The verdict was issued in the presence of the indicting lawyer, the victim’s family, the defense lawyer, and the delegate of the Child Welfare Council, Mrs. Najla Mustafa.
