IDPs in Tawila camp suffer a devastating fire

Internally Displaced people (IDPs) in Tawila camp were subjected to a devastating fire, a heart-wrenching scene that shakes the conscience of humanity.

The Governor of Darfur, Minni Arko Minnawi, stated that what happened in Tawila camp was not a mere accident, but a new tragedy added to the suffering of people exhausted by war and displaced by misfortune. They found nothing but dilapidated tents to shelter them, which then turned to ashes before the eyes of their children and women.

Minnawi appealed to humanitarian organizations and all relevant parties to take immediate and urgent action to rescue these vulnerable people and provide them with shelter, food, and medicine before the disaster worsens. He said that lives worn down by displacement cannot endure further pain or waiting. He added that targeting aid vehicles and burning displacement camps is a criminal act condemned by all standards and reveals a cruel plan intended to force the displaced to return to El Fasher, the city they fled in search of safety.

The Governor of Darfur said that the world is required today, more than ever, to condemn these blatant violations and to stand seriously to protect innocent civilians whose only fault is that they sought a safe life that preserves their dignity and humanity.
