Sudan and Malaysia Reach Agreement to Strengthen Partnership and Revive Agreements

His Excellency Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met yesterday (Monday), in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, with His Excellency the Malaysian Foreign Minister, Mr. Mohamed Hassan, in an official session that addressed the latest developments in Sudan and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

His Excellency the Foreign Minister briefed his Malaysian counterpart on the Sudanese peace initiative and Sudan’s aspirations to achieve stability and peace in light of the current challenges, emphasizing the importance of support from regional and international partners for this process.

In this context, Malaysia reiterated its firm stance in support of a stable and secure Sudan, affirming its solidarity and commending the Sudanese government’s efforts to enhance security and advance development.

During the meeting, His Excellency the Minister conveyed a message from His Excellency Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris to his brother, His Excellency Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim, addressing the developments in Sudan and the Sudanese peace initiative, as well as emphasizing the importance of Malaysia’s support for this initiative and its anticipated role in the reconstruction and development phase, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and digital transformation.

Both sides agreed to renew and develop existing bilateral agreements, as well as to revive the political consultation mechanism between the two countries’ foreign ministries. This aims to ensure the continuity of dialogue and regular coordination on bilateral and regional issues of common interest.

In the context of strengthening institutional capacities, the two parties agreed to arrange a training program dedicated to developing the skills of Sudanese diplomats and enhancing their professional competence in various fields of diplomatic and administrative work. This will be achieved through the exchange of expertise and the organization of specialized training courses.

At the conclusion of the talks, the Malaysian Foreign Minister hosted a luncheon in honor of the Sudanese Foreign Minister. The luncheon was attended by the Undersecretary for African Affairs, the Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations, the Director of the Technical Cooperation Program, and several senior officials from the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
