Extended UNDP Support for Khartoum State Health System
A joint meeting between the Director General of the Khartoum State Ministry of Health, Acting Minister Dr. Fath Al-Rahman Muhammad Al-Amin, and the Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sudan, Traio Bozorgova, revealed a comprehensive three-year support package for the state’s health system, encompassing maintenance, infrastructure development, supplies, and capacity building.
UNDP Resident Representative Traio Bozorgova explained that the health support program, expected to be implemented in the coming phase, is a joint effort involving several UN agencies and the African Development Bank. She noted that the program has already provided support and capacity building for doctors in various fields, in addition to supplying medicines and medical waste incinerators.
The UN official indicated that her visit today to the Khartoum State Ministry of Health is part of efforts to strengthen health support for the state, and she requested information on the actual need for insulin.
For his part, the Minister-designate, Dr. Fath Al-Rahman Muhammad Al-Amin, instructed the Director of the Tuberculosis and AIDS Program at the Ministry to develop a comprehensive plan outlining the urgent needs of both programs. This directive came after the program representative, during a meeting attended by the Director of the Pharmacy Department, Dr. Suhair Al-Tayeb, and the Director of the Tuberculosis and AIDS Control Program, Sawsan Zakaria, briefed the Minister on the critical need for the program’s intervention in the rehabilitation of Abu Anja Hospital for Chest Diseases and the Tropical Diseases Hospital in Omdurman. The Minister emphasized the importance of accurate assessments in developing comprehensive plans that would determine the necessary support from donor agencies and ensure that grants are utilized according to the identified needs.
The representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and her accompanying delegation are conducting a tour today (Thursday) that includes Abu Anja Hospital, the Tropical Diseases Hospital, and Al-Naw Hospital to assess the actual need for support.
