Talks in Geneva to Achieve Urgent Response for Refugees and Returnees in Sudan

On Saturday, Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, held a joint coordination meeting at the mission headquarters with Mamadou Dian, Regional Director of the UNHCR Office for East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and the Great Lakes, and Marie-Hélène, UNHCR Country Director for Sudan.
Discussions focused on how to achieve the necessary response to the urgent needs of refugees, voluntary returnees, and host communities, given the challenges posed by funding shortages for the UNHCR’s overall emergency response plan.

The Permanent Representative outlined the government’s ongoing efforts and its diligent follow-up to expedite the procedures of international organizations through the Higher Committee for Humanitarian Emergencies.
He also highlighted the state’s humanitarian interventions in various states, despite limited resources, through the Humanitarian Aid Commission and the Commissioner for Refugees.
