SAPA Country Director : Ibrahim Malik hospital is the beginning of a comprehensive plan in Khartoum

The Ministry of Health in Khartoum State, with the support of the Sudanese American Physician Association (SAPA ), has started the rehabilitation work of Ibrahim Malik Reference Hospital after the extensive destruction caused by the war. The hospital was officially handed over to the WHO’s executing contractor in the presence of health sector leaders and SAPA officials, marking the start of the Ministry’s reconstruction project.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Country Director of SAPA, Dr. Faisal Ahmed Al-Noor, the Director of the General Directorate of Therapeutic Medicine, Dr. Ahmed Al-Bashir, and the Director General of the Hospital, Dr. Mohammed Saeed, along with a number of directors of health departments and engineering.
Dr. Faisal Ahmed Al-Nour explained that SAPA’s intervention in Ibrahim Malik Hospital is the beginning of a comprehensive plan in Khartoum locality, starting with the rehabilitation of the emergency department and the pediatric department, which will be extended in 2026 to include Jabal Awliya and Soba hospitals. Dr. Faisal revealed that the emergency rehabilitation of Ibrahim Malik Hospital is expected to be completed within three months.
The Director of SAPA in Khartoum State, Dr. Muntaser Ibrahim Osman, confirmed the organization’s continued support for the health system and the expansion of its interventions, while the director of the hospital, Dr. Mohamed Saeed, praised the prominent role of the organization, pointing out that the emergency department at the hospital is one of the largest emergency departments in Sudan, and that its rehabilitation will constitute a qualitative leap in improving health services for citizens.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Bashir stressed that the hospital represents a treatment destination for the citizens of Khartoum, praising SAPA’s efforts, which he described as a real addition to the restoration of health services.
