The General Directorate of Emergency Management begins to review the five-year plan for cholera in preparation for its approval

The General Directorate of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control at the Federal Ministry of Health has begun to review the five-year strategic plan for cholera preparedness and response for 2026-2030 in preparation for its approval, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO).

In the opening session, the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ali Babiker, stated that epidemics, especially cholera, remain a major challenge in Sudan, which calls for support for the Ministry’s efforts in fighting and reducing infections and deaths. He directed that the community and citizens should be essential in participation and decision-making by developing mechanisms to achieve this.

Babiker stressed that the workshop will represent an opening for the coming period in integrated control through the strategic plan, after it was presented for discussion to participants from the Ministry and partners from international and UN organizations.

In addition, the Acting Director General of the Ministry of Health in Kassala State, Shaa Al-Din Hamza, praised the White Army (health and medical cadres) in addressing epidemics, especially during the war, which contributed to protecting the health system, and thus participating in changing the features after the war, adding that “Sudan after the war will not be the same as it was before.”

The Director of the General Directorate of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control, Dr. Muntaser Mohamed Othman, confirmed that the workshop came after meetings and discussions, to reach the five-year strategic plan, and to insure what it contained while adhering to what it contained, so that the country enjoys health and wellness.

Dr. Khalid Al-Taher, from the WHO described the workshop to discuss and approve the plan as a mission, declaring continued support and working hand in hand to contribute to the fight against the pandemic.
