Washington: Proposed Peace Plan Would Be Acceptable

The US representative to the Security Council, Mike Waltz, urged the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to negotiate, indicating that both sides must accept a ceasefire.

During a Security Council session on Friday, the US representative added, “I hope we all agree that this war will not end with a military solution,” noting that the costs borne by all parties are devastating and it is time to end this war.

The US representative to the Security Council affirmed: “We will continue to provide weapons for the defense of Ukraine, and we may impose additional economic costs if Russia continues to ignore calls for a ceasefire.”

Earlier, White House spokeswoman Carolyn Leavitt stated that US President Donald Trump is frustrated with both sides in the war in Ukraine.

During a press conference, she added that talks are ongoing to end the war in Ukraine and that President Trump supports the proposed peace plan.

She continued: “President Trump made it clear from the beginning, throughout his election campaign, that he wants to end the war in Ukraine,” and we believe that the peace we achieved in the Middle East can be achieved in Ukraine, adding that Trump held direct talks with both Putin and Zelensky to end the war, and noted that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff discussed the peace plan with Ukrainian officials, emphasizing: “We are indeed having good talks with Russia and Ukraine to end the war.”

She added: “We believe the proposed peace plan will be acceptable to both Ukraine and Russia.”
