Mariam al-Sadiq: Equating the Army and Militias is Dangerous

Dr. Mariam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, Vice President of the National Umma Party, stated that Sudan is facing a war of existence, not a war of influence, and that what is happening in El Fasher is a horrific crime that offends the conscience of humanity.

Addressing a political seminar entitled “No to the Partition of Sudan” at the Egyptian Writers Union headquarters in the Zamalek Conference Hall, she added that the war has become a proxy war, and that halting support for militias is the first condition for saving Sudan from disintegration.

Mariam pointed out that any negotiation or truce process must be based on the pure will of the Sudanese people and with the participation of national civil and political forces. She emphasized that equating the army and militias in international discourse is dangerous, as the military institution represents the state while militias represent chaos. She explained that the Sudanese people alone are capable of achieving peace if fair international guarantees are provided.
