The Global Fund team visits medical supplies to monitor the implementation of Addis Ababa recommendations

A verification team from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria visited the National Fund for Medical Supplies with the aim of following up on the implementation of the recommendations from the Global Support Workshop held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, last April, related to the delivery of donated medicines directly to health facilities to facilitate patients’ access to treatment near their places of residence.

The visiting team held a meeting chaired by the Acting Director General of the Fund, in the presence of the Directors of Departments and the Department of International Relations. Dr. Tahani Abdel Rahim, Director of the International Relations Department, reviewed the development witnessed by the Fund even before the outbreak of the war, pointing to the extent of the damage caused to thethe Fund’s buildings and stores, through a video presentation that illustrates the magnitude of the challenges on the ground.

Dr. Tahani provided a comprehensive briefing on what has been achieved in the Direct Access to Health Facilities Plan and the challenges facing implementation, while the team listened to the recommendations of the Fund in this regard.

The visiting team learned about the current status of the rehabilitated resource planning system and the plan to expand the application of the system at the level of health facilities, in order to increase the efficiency of the supply chain and avoid problems of oversupply or shortage. The delegation also visited the data center and warehouse (1) and was assured of the Fund’s commitment to the rules of good storage and distribution.

The visiting team praised the advanced level achieved by the Fund in the electronic system and the documentary cycle, and the high achievement rates achieved by some states in the Direct Access to Health Facilities.
The team will continue its field visits to a number of UNFPA branches in the states and health facilities to assess the progress of the implementation of the plans and achieve the required coverage of global fund .
