Higher Committee for Preparing the Environment for the Return of Citizens to Khartoum Holds a Press Conference to Review Accomplished Tasks
The Higher Committee for Preparing the Environment for the Return of Citizens to Khartoum State, headed by Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jabir Ibrahim, held a press conference yesterday in Khartoum, attended by all members of the specialized committees.
The Chairman of the Higher Committee began his remarks by praising the patience and steadfastness of the Sudanese people who fought alongside the armed forces and the forces participating in the Battle of Dignity, defeating the enemy, and imposing their will for Sudan’s survival. He also offered his condolences for all Sudanese martyrs.
He also offered a detailed explanation of the Higher Committee’s tasks, which include maintaining security, removing remnants of war and explosives, and evacuating Khartoum State of combat forces. He also emphasized controlling foreign presence, removing informal settlements, controlling crossings, and deploying checkpoints. In addition to its responsibilities related to providing essential services, including the rehabilitation of the electricity sector, health, water, and environmental health, as well as the rehabilitation of roads, bridges, and Khartoum Airport.
His Excellency added that the Committee for Preparing the Environment for the Return of Khartoum was formed pursuant to Sovereignty Council Chairman Decision No. 153. Since its formation, the committee has held several meetings and conducted field visits through its subcommittees to support the efforts of the Khartoum State government and advance the work to enable the safe return of citizens to the state. He noted that federal government institutions have already begun the gradual relocation to the capital, and that all ministries have received alternative headquarters outside central Khartoum, with the exception of the Ministries of Interior and Health, pending the development of alternatives. He indicated that the Republican Palace will remain in its current location, given its historical significance for the country.
Lieutenant General Jabir also indicated the possibility of holding meetings at the Sovereignty Council and Council of Ministers levels using video conferencing.
The Chairman of the Higher Committee for Environmental Planning affirmed the committee’s openness to all social components to foster more cultural, social, and sporting partnerships. He announced the organization of a major sports festival in the coming days with broad participation, including all sporting activities.
The Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Planning of Khartoum, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jaber, appealed to citizens to return to their homes, noting the efforts of the Ministry of Health to combat disease vectors. The Sovereignty Council member highlighted the extent of the suffering facing Sudanese abroad and in shelters, which places a greater responsibility on the Higher Committee to accomplish its tasks.
Members of the subcommittee reviewed the current security and service situation after the war, the work the committee has accomplished so far, and the plan to implement the remaining work.
