Militia Arrests Police Officers and Seizes Their Salaries in East Darfur

Informed sources revealed today, Saturday, that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia arrested (38) police officers in the Abu Karinka locality of East Darfur State.

The sources said that the militia arrested the police officers and seized sums of money, in the form of monthly wages, transferred to them from the police headquarters in Port Sudan into a money transfer center account. She indicated that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia’s intelligence services have been carrying out a fierce campaign since the previous Wednesday against police officers who remained with their families in East Darfur, which has been under militia control since the army’s withdrawal from the state in November 2023.

A police officer in the state capital, El Daein, told Darfur 24 that the campaign was prompted by the transfer of salaries estimated at 70 million Sudanese pounds to police officers in Abu Karinka locality.

He explained that the salaries were transferred from the Sudanese Police Headquarters from army-controlled areas to the account of a money transfer center in Abu Karinka, east of El Daein, which is under the control of the RSF.

He added, “The militia’s intelligence services arrested the owner of the transfer center and confiscated the money that had not been delivered to the police officers through the Bankak application of the Bank of Khartoum. They are also pursuing those who received their salaries from the center’s owner.”
