Finance Committee Discusses the Costs of Returning to Khartoum State

The committee tasked with the financial aspect of preparing the appropriate environment for citizens’ return to Khartoum State revealed the government’s interest in providing the necessary funding for the basic service sectors, including health, water, education, electricity, and alternative energy, as priorities for this phase.

The committee, chaired by Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, and including the Minister of State, the Governor of the Central Bank, and the Undersecretary of Finance, discussed – during its meeting at the ministry’s headquarters – ways to secure local resources and attract external funding for the rehabilitation of government hospitals, the provision of medicines, environmental sanitation by removing remnants of war, cleaning and sterilization, combating disease vectors, providing potable water, rehabilitating schools, and providing electricity and solar energy.

It was agreed to review the provision of the required funding for these priorities from relevant authorities based on the state’s available resources, in addition to coordinating with the banking sector, grassroots initiatives, and states to contribute to in-kind support, particularly in providing student housing and solar energy systems. It was agreed to identify cash and in-kind funding needs (providing medicines, medical devices, and equipment) to leverage regional and international funding opportunities through available channels for conflict-affected countries.

It should be noted that the committee includes the Internal Audit Bureau, the Audit Bureau, the Economic Security Bureau, Khartoum State, and all relevant stakeholders.
