Minister of Oil and Energy Discusses Ways to Strengthen Partnership in Electricity Sector with His Egyptian Counterpart

Mohieddin Naim, Minister of Oil and Energy, met today in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy. The meeting was attended by Lieutenant General Emad Eddin Mustafa Adawi, Ambassador of Sudan to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The meeting reviewed areas of joint work, supporting and developing cooperation and partnerships between the two countries in the fields of electricity and renewable energy, and following up on the completion of the second phase of the Toshka 2/Wadi Halfa dual-circuit power line project, with a capacity of 300 megawatts.

The meeting also addressed ways to enhance cooperation in training and exchange of expertise in the fields of solar and wind energy, and providing electricity to residential and industrial areas.

The meeting addressed means of cooperation to rehabilitate the electricity grid in Sudan and implement an urgent emergency plan to provide the necessary electricity in some areas during the agricultural harvest season, and work to develop a plan to rehabilitate generating stations and transformers. The latest developments in the implementation of the second phase of the interconnection line were also reviewed, and the necessary measures were taken to install its equipment. A number of future projects in the energy sector were also discussed, including expanding the use of renewable energy sources, establishing solar plants in many areas, and the possibility of benefiting from the private sector in implementing projects.
