African Union Commission Chairperson: Optimistic about a Better Future for Sudan

Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jabir, a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and head of the Sudanese delegation participating in the 34th Arab League Summit, received the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, this morning (Saturday), on the sidelines of his participation in the Arab Summit.

Following the meeting, the Chairperson of the Commission said that he was briefed by the member of the Sovereignty Council on the situation in Sudan and how to work to assist Sudan during this critical phase. He added in a press statement following the meeting that what is happening in Sudan does not concern him alone, but rather concerns the “security of the entire region.”

The Chairperson of the Commission continued, saying, “I consider Sudan the beating heart of the African continent, and any harm that befalls Sudan is as if it befalls the entire continent.” He said that he is “very optimistic because the Sudanese Armed Forces have begun to control many areas.” He expressed his hope that Sudan would return to a better state.
