Consultative meeting with pharmaceutical manufacturers on re-production in factories

The Federal Minister of Health and Chairman of the Medicines and Poisons Council, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, affirmed the ministry’s commitment to support and develop the national pharmaceutical industry, noting that the issue of medicine is a national security issue. This came during the first consultative meeting organized by the National Council for Drugs and Poisons, which was held at the quarantine hall in Port Sudan, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Council, Dr. Ali Babiker, and a number of owners and representatives of pharmaceutical factories.

The minister stressed the importance of paying attention to the national industry to achieve pharmaceutical abundance and attract local and foreign investments to reduce the financial burden, reduce dependence and reduce the state’s spending on foreign exchange. He also stressed the ministry’s keenness to remove obstacles facing the pharmaceutical industry and provide the necessary support for the implementation of policies on the ground. The minister pointed to the importance of coordination with the governors of the states to support the restart of national factories and the return of work, thanking the efforts of the security services in securing facilities, especially pharmaceutical factories.

The meeting concluded with recommendations aimed at developing an urgent matrix that accelerates the return of the national pharmaceutical industry and work on it with other sectors in industry, finance and the Bank of Sudan, and the meeting also directed the formation of a special committee to follow up on liabilities between government agencies and factory owners.
