Minister of Finance Meets His Omani Counterpart

Jibril Ibrahim Mohammed, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, met with Sultan bin Salem Al Habsi, Minister of Finance of the Sultanate of Oman, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of Arab Financial Institutions, currently being held in Kuwait from April 9 to 10, 2025.
The meeting was attended by Ahmed bin Nasser Al Musalmi, Governor of the Central Bank of Oman; Dr. Mohammed Bashar, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economic Planning; and Mohammed Osman Mohammed Khair, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, along with a number of specialists from the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Sudan.
The meeting addressed ways to strengthen economic and financial relations between the two countries.
Dr. Jibril expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the government and people of the Sultanate of Oman for their warm welcome and hospitality, particularly for the significant support the Sultanate provides to Sudanese citizens residing there and facilitating their residency procedures in light of the current circumstances facing Sudan.
His Excellency affirmed Sudan’s keenness to enhance economic cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman, particularly in the fields of gold and livestock exports, to meet the needs of the Omani market.
He also noted the importance of partnership in the areas of digital transformation and banking cooperation.
For his part, the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan expressed his country’s desire to expand cooperation between the two countries’ central banks, particularly in the areas of correspondent banking and the opening of branches of some Sudanese commercial banks in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Omani Minister of Finance, for his part, emphasized the depth of the fraternal relations between the two countries, noting his country’s aspiration to enhance trade cooperation, particularly in the field of gold imports and benefiting from the gold refinery in the Omani Free Zone.
He also expressed particular interest in increasing the volume of trade exchange, particularly in the import of Sudanese meat, through effective partnerships between the relevant companies in both countries.
He affirmed the Sultanate of Oman’s support for the exchange of expertise in the field of digital transformation and strengthening bilateral banking relations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue working together to strengthen trade, economic, and banking relations between the two countries.
They also emphasized the formation of technical teams from the central banks of Sudan and the Sultanate of Oman to ensure effective coordination and progress in areas of joint banking cooperation, serving the strategic interests of both countries.
