Signing the minutes of the first meeting of the Sudanese-Egyptian committee concerned with the railway link between the two countries
Yesterday, Tuesday, the Egyptian capital, Cairo, witnessed the signing of the minutes of the first meeting of the Egyptian-Sudanese committee concerned with studying the railway link between Egypt and Sudan, funded by a grant provided by the Kuwait Fund for Development in the amount of 750 thousand Kuwaiti dinars, in the presence of the Ministers of Transport in the two countries.
Eng. Abu Bakr Abul-Qasim – Acting Minister of Transport, confirmed that the project is a major qualitative leap in the field of cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the transport sector.
Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport, also confirmed that the scope of the study includes the project consultant studying the alternatives presented for the route to connect the two countries from Abu Simbel to Abu Hamad, passing through Wadi Halfa, in light of the Sudanese side’s request to extend the scope of the study to include the (Wadi Halfa/Abu Hamad) line in order to maximize economic feasibility and benefit from the project, noting that a unified decision was issued by both sides to form members of the committee concerned with following up on the study of the project.
The two ministers confirmed that cooperation in the field of railway linkage between the two sides reflects the strong and historical relations between the two brotherly countries, stressing the project’s contributions to facilitating the movement of passengers and goods between them and supporting the service of residential, agricultural and commercial communities located along the line’s path.
The Egyptian Minister of Transport stressed that the project is an important part of the connection with Sudan, which is connected to it via 3 land ports on the Egyptian-Sudanese border (Qastal-Arqin-Ras Hadarba) in addition to the navigational route (Aswan-Wadi Halfa) via Lake Nasser, pointing out that the Egyptian Ministry of Transport is working jointly with the Sudanese side to develop Wadi Halfa Port by establishing a new river dock with a length of 400 meters.
For his part, the Minister of Transport in charge thanked Egypt, its leadership, government and people, for the continuous and effective cooperation with Sudan in various sectors, stressing that this project serves the interests of the two brotherly countries, praising the great cooperation of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport in implementing this important project, which is considered a major qualitative leap in the field of cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the transport sector.
