Al-Burhan meets the Executive Director of WFP

Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, 1st. Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan met today with Ms. Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP), in the presence of the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein’s Al-Amin.

The Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement that the Head of the Council renewed during the meeting the government’s keenness and full commitment to providing all facilities to the WFP and its support for all the program’s projects that were proposed, including the establishment of a logistics base in Al-Daba in the Northern State to provide humanitarian aid to those in need through various airports in Sudan, noting that Ms. McCain welcomed this initiative, indicating that its implementation will be considered by various competent authorities.

His Excellency added that Ms. Cindy McCain’s visit to the country touched on the projects of the WFP and the problems facing humanitarian work and food distribution in Sudan to those in need, indicating that she held meetings with the member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Assistant Commander-in-Chief, 1st. Lieutenant General, Ibrahim Jaber and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which discussed ways of joint coordination to support humanitarian work.

The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs referred to the Sudanese government’s assurances and full cooperation with the WFP as the largest UN organization operating in Sudan, noting that the partnership with the program has extended for decades.

His Excellency said that the Executive Director of the WFP confirmed her keenness to provide humanitarian aid and support to Sudan and her interest in the developments of the situation there.
