Sudan and Iran agree to strengthen relations

The Sudanese Foreign Minister briefed the Iranian President on the developments of the military situation in the country and “the near-end of the rebellion”.

This came during the meeting of the Sudanese Foreign Minister in charge, Ambassador Hussein Awad, with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, in Tehran, according to a statement issued (Thursday) by the Sudanese Foreign Ministry.

The statement said that the minister briefed the Iranian President on the overall situation in Sudan and the great progress made by the armed forces and the near-end of the rebellion, then spoke about the prospects for joint cooperation between Sudan and Iran due to their potential and capabilities, and Sudan’s aspiration to benefit from these good relations for the benefit of the two peoples and countries and to serve the issues of the region and the Islamic nation.

The minister conveyed the congratulations of the Head of the Sovereignty Council and the government and people of Sudan to the Iranian President on gaining the confidence of the Iranian people and taking the constitutional oath, wishing him success and guidance in ruling Iran and serving its people.

Since mid-April last year, a war broke out between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the country, after those forces rebelled in an attempt to seize power, and after the attempt failed, the rebel forces turned into a militia practicing killing, looting and all forms of violations against international humanitarian law.

For his part, the Iranian president thanked the minister for participating in the inauguration program and the leadership and people of Sudan for the congratulations and good feelings, and expressed his happiness with the return of bilateral relations between the two countries and stressed the need to strengthen and develop them.
