US Representative in the UNSC: “The Rapid Support Forces must stop their unacceptable attacks

The US Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, called for the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan to stop their unacceptable attacks immediately.
This came during an emergency session of the Council to discuss the worsening situation in Sudan.
She expressed her deep concern about the increasing acts of violence and violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces against civilians, stressing that these attacks constitute a serious violation of human rights and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the country.
The American representative added: “The Rapid Support Forces must stop their unacceptable attacks immediately.” The continuation of these hostilities undermines peace and stability efforts in Sudan
She also called for the need to open safe corridors to deliver humanitarian aid to the affected areas and ensure the protection of civilians, calling on the international community to take urgent steps to stop the violence and support the peace process in Sudan.
She indicated that the United States will continue to work with its international partners to pressure the conflicting parties in Sudan to sit at the negotiating table and resolve disputes peacefully, stressing that a political solution is the only way to achieve lasting peace in Sudan.
The American delegate added that the Security Council must rise to the challenge in facing this crisis, and take the necessary measures to protect human rights and support humanitarian efforts in Sudan.
