Federal Minister of Health: Midwifery and nursing are the first line of defense in health institutions

The Federal Ministry of Health is committed to provide the appropriate work environment for midwives and direct attention to the profession, developing and reforming it in Sudan by integrating them into the health system and providing a midwife for each village, in addition to providing the required devices and equipment, and filling the deficit in all states of Sudan.
This came during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the midwifery profession in Sudan this morning at the College of Midwifery in Omdurman.
The Acting Minister of Health , Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, confirmed the ministry’s adoption of all recommendations and proposals that support the stability of the situation for the midwifery profession, pointing out that midwifery and nursing are the safety valve to complete the health service, expressing his hope for the establishment of the Nursing and Midwifery Council to lead and manage work at the level of Sudan.
Haitham said that the midwifery sector has the ability to develop and survive, especially since they are an important segment and no one can reduce its capabilities and efforts, pointing to the role of the community midwife and her participation in many health programs (health education, nutrition, environment), pointing out that reducing maternal and newborn mortality begins with attention to midwives Thank you to all medical staff working in Sudan, especially midwives who work 24 hours and in complex conditions, committed to returning the midwife to play her role by localizing services in the localities of the states and including midwives in Health .
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Professor Aisha Al-Sufi, expressed her happiness with the celebration of the centenary of the establishment of the midwife school in 1921, stressing the full interest in the midwifery profession as the soul of medical service, pointing to the great and effective role of pioneers, pointing out that the midwifery service is an integrated set of tasks.
The Secretary of the National Council for Medical Specialties, Professor Ahmed Farah Shadoul, revealed the arrangement for the formation of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, in terms of 70% of births take place through the home, “We will work to develop midwifery and nursing as it has become a global profession, so it is necessary to pay attention to training and push international standards of training from curricula, skills and others, he said .
Shadol stressed his support for health frameworks to reach a healthy patient, pointing to the need to be proud of the midwifery profession for its great role inside and outside Sudan, where cadres from neighboring countries (Somalia, Ethiopia, Yemen) are trained.
Director of the General Administration of Basic Health Care, Dr. Dalia Idris, called the Federal Minister of Health to pay attention to midwives and the importance of integrating them into the health system, demanding the retention of midwifery cadres until they become attractive and to ensure continuity in the profession, offering congratulations to the Red Sea states for their appointment to all state midwives ….
