Technical Committee for National Strategy for Blue Economy Concludes Work

The technical committee for drafting the national strategy for the blue economy concluded its work ON Wednesday at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.

All the concerned sectors have confirmed their readiness to present the draft national strategy during the workshop scheduled to be held in Port-Sudan during February 26 – 28, in order to review and approve it, which was prepared based on the regional strategy of IGAD, which in turn is consistent with the African blue economy strategy initiated by the African Union after the Global Conference on the Blue Economy that was held in Kenya, Nairobi, in 2018, taking into account the specialty of each region and each country.

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning represents the national point of contact for the blue economy and cooperates with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the organ responsible for the IGAD file, as the main sectors of the blue economy include a number of ministries and concerned bodies.

It is to be noted that the concept of the blue economy means the sustainable exploitation of the resources of the oceans, seas, lakes, rivers and other water bodies to achieve sustainable development, while preserving the environment from pollution.
