Chaired by Sudan, the Council of Ambassadors of IGAD countries in Brussels begins sessions

Sudan Ambassador Abdelbagi Hamdan Kabeer hosted, at his residence Tuesday, the founding meeting of the Council of Ambassadors of the group of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in Eastern Africa (IGAD) in Brussels, in coordination with the permanent representative of the IGAD in Brussels, Ambassador Musa Ali.

The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of South Sudan, and a representative of the Djibouti Embassy in Brussels.

During the meeting, it was officially announced that the group would launch and start its work under the chairmanship of the Ambassador of Sudan in Brussels, and its members agreed to work together to achieve the common interests of the IGAD countries, including supporting the permanent representation of the organization in Brussels through its newly established office and benefiting from it in collective action with European Union institutions and other organizations in the representation region.

The meeting was preceded by similar meetings in Geneva and Paris, and these steps come at the initiative of Sudan.

It is worth mentioning that the idea of establishing councils of IGAD ambassadors abroad was approved in the ministerial meeting at the initiative of Sudan in its capacity as the president of the current session of the IGAD organization and is considered an important achievement under Sudan’s presidency of IGAD.
