NCCW emphasizes protection of children in areas of armed conflict
The Secretary-General of the National Council for Child Welfare, Dr. Abdul Qadir Abdullah Abuh affirmed the council’s commitment to continue coordinating of efforts of national and international partners to implement the joint road map between the Government of Sudan and the United Nations to protect children from violations in areas of armed conflict.
This came in the meeting of the high-level committee to supervise the implementation of the joint road map between the government of Sudan and the United Nations, held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was chaired by Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq, head of the higher committee to follow up the preparation and implementation of the road map to protect children from violations in areas of armed conflict, in the presence of representatives of the armed forces, movements signatory of the Juba Peace Agreement, representatives of relevant ministries and government institutions, and representatives of the United Nations, the meeting also discussed the joint efforts between the Government of Sudan and the United Nations in implementing the road map during the year 2022, which was included in the report of the National Technical Committee to follow up the implementation of the road map, where the meeting touched on the achievements that have been made, the challenges that faced implementation, and recommendations to improve performance in the year 2022.
Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq renewed Sudan’s full commitment to protecting children in areas of armed conflict through the full implementation of the map in cooperation with the United Nations, appreciating the efforts of the technical committee in implementing the map during the past year 2022 despite the many challenges, also praising the efforts of UNICEF and UNITAMS in supporting the implementation of the map.
The Secretary General of the National Council for Child Welfare and Chairman of the Technical Committee, Dr. Abdul Qadir Abdullah Abuh, renewed the commitment of the council to continue to lead the coordination of the efforts of national and international partners in the following road map and to follow up on its implementation on the ground.
The United Nations representatives appreciated the government’s efforts in implementing the map, and renewed their commitment to continue supporting the implementation of the map during the current year 2023.
The meeting came out with many recommendations to push forward the implementation of the map during the year 2023.
