Approval of revolutionary charter to establish the people’s power in its final form

Dr.. Ahmed Al-Mufti

First: Today, 19 January 2023, the “Sudan Pulse” website reported the following:

  1. It announced the formation of resistance committees in Sudan,” today, Thursday, 19 January, the approval of the Revolutionary Charter for establishment of People’s Authority, in its final form, followed with the approval of special structures for the committees.
  2. It was stated that the endorsement of the draft charter and structures came after a 15-day workshop, which began on 2o December of last year, which witnessed consultations, amendments and modifications by the old and new signatories.
  3. Some “resistance committee formations” also announced their rejection of the framework agreement, and stressed their adherence to the protest line, demanding the overthrow of the military coup, and it was feared that these differences on the framework agreement and dealing with political forces, would cause splits within the ranks of the committees.
  4. A statement issued by the signatories to the charter revealed a tendency to hold a press conference to reveal the provisions of the charter in its final form.
  5. The Charter canceled the constitutional document and the peace agreement concluded on 3 October 2020.

Second: The most dangerous thing in the charter, in our estimation, is the following:

    1. It was authorized by the “Formations of Resistance Committees in Sudan”, which is an unknown body, and it has not been defined.
    2. It stipulates the cancellation of the Juba peace agreement for Sudan, and this is something that drags the signatories to the charter into direct confrontation with the armed struggle movements signatories to the Juba peace agreement.
    3. The different positions of the signatories to the Charter, regarding the framework agreement, and the political forces that signed it, inevitably lead to divisions within the resistance committees, whose extent no one knows, something which undermines them.
    4. The approved structures of the resistance committees require the approval by the majority of the committee members.
