Egypt affirms commitment to supply Sudan with electricity

Egypt Ambassador, to Sudan, Ambassador Hani Salah, affirmed his country fully prepared to supply Sudan with all its electricity needs.

During his address to the celebration (night in the love of Egypt in Khartoum) in occasion of end of term of office of Egyptian Consul General, Ahmed Adly, organized by the Ankara Center for Services in Dosa Hall in Khartoum, with the participation of a number of national symbols under the auspices of the Governor of Khartoum State, Ahmed Othman, Ambassador Hani Salah, noted that Egypt is currently supplying Sudan with 80 megawatts and is working to increase it to 1,000 megawatts after installing the transformers already in Khartoum and making technical modifications in the internal network, which the Sudanese side is implementing at the present time.

The Egyptian ambassador pointed to the agreement between Egypt and Sudan to complete the project of Aswan, Abu Simbel and Khartoum during the next 5-7 years, considering it a global achievement and a historic project for the twenty-first century at the world level, indicating that the coming period will witness cultural, artistic and sports activity and exchange of visits at all levels between the two countries.

He expressed hope for activating a twinning agreement between the Egyptian capital Cairo and the Sudan’s capital Khartoum, praising the tireless efforts of Khartoum Governor, Ahmed Othman, to develop the capital and his successful management of its rehabilitation in all fields.

It is worth noting that great work achieved during the past 8 years of the rule of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, during which Egypt was able to produce 59,000 megawatts of electricity instead of 27,000 megawatts, with domestic consumption of 37,000 megawatts, and achieving a surplus of electricity production equivalent to 27,000 megawatts, which is also sufficient for Sudan’s needs that reach 4,000 megawatts.
