Sudan’s Proposals Adopted at the Arab Labor Conference to Support Recovery and Reconstruction
Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Professor Mutasim Ahmed Saleh, affirmed that the reconstruction of Sudan begins with its people. He emphasized that restoring their ability to work and produce, developing their skills, and providing employment opportunities and livelihoods are the fundamental prerequisites for the country’s recovery and rebuilding.
In Sudan’s address to the 52nd session of the Arab Labor Conference, currently being held in Cairo, Egypt, the Minister explained that Sudan’s vision for the post-war period is based on investing in human resources, enhancing employment opportunities, and strengthening social protection, thereby contributing to stability and sustainable development.
The conference sessions resulted in significant institutional gains for Sudan, with the approval of its request to support the development of the labor inspection system and occupational safety and health during the recovery and reconstruction phase. This opens broad horizons for Arab cooperation in the areas of capacity building, exchange of expertise, twinning programs, digital transformation, and improving the work environment.
The conference also adopted Sudan’s proposal to include the topic of “Rebuilding Labor Markets and Enhancing Employment and Social Protection in Arab Countries Affected by Conflicts and Crises” on the agenda of the 53rd session of the conference, scheduled for 2027. This will strengthen the prominence of this issue on the agenda of joint Arab action and facilitate the exchange of experiences and expertise among countries affected by crises.
This development complements previous resolutions adopted by the Board of Directors of the Arab Labor Organization regarding support for the development and rehabilitation of vocational training centers and the development of Sudanese human resources capacities. This will contribute to moving from the stage of resolutions and recommendations to the implementation of practical programs and partnerships that support recovery and reconstruction efforts in Sudan.
