PM Issues Directives to Improve Teachers’ Conditions
Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris issued a series of directives to address teachers’ issues and improve the living conditions of public education workers. This followed his meeting on Thursday with the Minister of National Education, Dr. Al-Tuhami Al-Zein Hajar, in the presence of the Minister of Federal Governance and Rural Development, Mohamed Saleh Kertkila; the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim; the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Nizar Abdullah Mohamed; the Head of the General Union of Public Education Workers in Sudan, Abbas Habib Allah; and the Union’s Secretary-General, Radwan Adam.
The Minister of National Education and Training explained in a press statement that the meeting discussed addressing issues related to education and teachers. He indicated that the Prime Minister issued several important directives in this regard, including the immediate implementation of circulars issued by the Cabinet and the Civil Service Bureau, and the payment of outstanding salaries, grants, and allowances according to a schedule extending until the end of the current fiscal year, 2026, with disbursements to begin in August 2026.
The Prime Minister also directed that the children of public education employees be exempted from examination fees for all levels of public education (Sudanese Certificate examinations, intermediate level examinations, and primary level examinations), and that teachers’ salaries be centralized starting from the next fiscal year, beginning in January 2027.
The Minister of Education emphasized that these directives underscore the Prime Minister’s commitment to the education sector and addressing teachers’ issues as a fundamental pillar of the nation’s progress.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the General Union of Public Education Workers in Sudan expressed his complete satisfaction with the meeting’s outcomes, emphasizing that the decision to centralize teachers’ salaries represents a significant step towards achieving job and living stability for teachers. He commended the strong response from the Council of Ministers and the Ministries of Finance, Federal Governance, and Rural Development. He also affirmed the commitment to placing education and health issues at the forefront of national priorities, using them as a springboard for building a prosperous future for Sudan.
