Ministry of Energy: Repairing the Fault at the Merowe Dam Power Station Will Take Several Days

Ministry of Energy issued a statement regarding the outage at the Meroe Dam power station caused by a fire in some of the station’s cables.

The statement explained that the fire caused significant damage to the main feeders of the transmission lines (Meroe-Al-Markhiyat and Meroe-Atbara). It added that after technical inspection, it was determined that repairing the fault would take several days to restore electricity to the affected states.

The statement also noted that the Minister of Energy, Engineer Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, immediately traveled to the Merowe Dam following the incident to oversee the maintenance work, accompanied by the state’s security committee. He directed that the necessary decisions be made to restore power and provide spare parts to repair the major fault.

He also directed that alternative power supplies be provided from other stations and that the networks be linked to manage the available electricity efficiently and equitably.

The statement concluded by mentioning that investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fire. Reiterating its apology to citizens for what it called “unforeseen disruptions.”
