Ethiopian Army Reignites War in Tigray
The Tigray regional government stated that the Prosperity Party regime, which it described as dictatorial and genocidal, has taken a further step in escalating its ongoing comprehensive aggression against the people of Tigray, including a blockade, drone strikes, and attacks by its affiliated militias.
It continued, “We announce to everyone that at dawn today, 25 May 2018 (August 1, 2016), this regime launched an open and direct war on the western front of the Tigray region towards the Shirere area.”
In a statement added that this regime, since coming to power, has declared a war of genocide and committed all forms of international crimes against the people of Tigray. Even after signing the Pretoria Peace Agreement, driven by his overwhelming desire to subjugate and dismantle the Tigrayan people, it continued to plot, impose blockades, and make military preparations. Today, it has once again taken the initiative to invade Tigray and commit a new genocide by opening this new front.
The statement continued, “Therefore, we issue an urgent and clear appeal to the people of Tigray, both inside and outside the country, and to all security and defense forces in Tigray, along with national forces, activists, civil society organizations, and religious institutions, to rise up and declare full readiness in this just struggle to guarantee our national existence, raising our decisive slogan: ‘ዘበት ንብሄራዊ ብርሰት’ (We will not allow our national destruction again).
It told her people, ‘Just as you did yesterday, today is the time to make a glorious history to protect our survival. We inform you that the relevant authorities will subsequently provide the necessary clarifications and statements regarding the developments on the ground in this renewed invasion and destruction.'” The statement called on the people to take the utmost precautions and necessary measures to protect themselves, and also required the international community to fully understand the serious consequences and repercussions that will result from this war, which was ignited by the genocidal and dictatorial “prosperity” regime in this region.
