Sudanese Standards Authority Inspects Burri Market, Enforces Ban on Uncalibrated “Ratl” Measure and Urges Consumers to Use Hotline 5960

The Director General of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO), Rahba Saeed Abdullah, conducted an inspection tour of Square 4 Market in Burri to assess the quality and safety of goods and products on display and ensure their suitability for consumer use.

During the visit, she emphasized the importance of full compliance with approved measurement standards and warned against the use of uncalibrated traditional measuring units such as the “Ratl”, stressing that standardized measurements are essential to ensuring fairness in trade and protecting consumers.

Rahba also met with traders and consumers, listening to their observations and feedback regarding commercial activities and the quality of products available in the market.

The Director General further recommended regular and continuous monitoring of product expiration dates before items are offered for sale. She encouraged citizens to report any concerns or complaints related to product quality or safety through the dedicated consumer hotline 5960.

The inspection coincided with the distribution of educational awareness materials aimed at promoting a culture of standardization and strengthening consumer rights.
