NSWF Board of Trustees Approves Third Phase of Student Dormitory Reconstruction
The Board of Trustees of the National Students Welfare Fund (NSWF), in an emergency meeting held today, Wednesday, at the Fund’s General Secretariat offices, approved the third phase of the student housing complex reconstruction program. This follows the inauguration of the second phase of the project in the Martyr Suad Tambal City in Khartoum State.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, who is also the Acting Chairman of the Board of Trustees, confirmed that the third phase will be the final phase of reconstruction for all student housing complexes in Sudan. He indicated that it targets the dormitories of the Central Complex at the University of Khartoum, Haseeb and Al-Razi dormitories at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum, Musab Ibn Umair dormitory, as well as several other dormitories in Khartoum State and dormitories at the University of Gezira.
He explained that the decision to launch the third phase came after an emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees, during which the new phase was approved. He emphasized the strong determination of the Fund’s administration, headed by Secretary-General Dr. Ahmed Hamza Al-Amin and his colleagues, as well as a comprehensive plan and significant support to complete the reconstruction work. For his part, the Secretary-General of the National Student Welfare Fund and Rapporteur of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Ahmed Hamza Al-Amin, stated that the meeting discussed the requirements of the next phase in light of the government and Ministry of Higher Education’s decision to return universities to their campuses and close external centers. He added that the Fund presented the Board with the plan for the third phase of the reconstruction of student housing complexes, which aims to accommodate more than 25,000 students. He emphasized that the next phase requires exceptional effort and continuous preparation to accommodate returning students, ensuring that no student faces difficulty in securing housing.
Dr. Ahmed Hamza indicated that the Fund will begin arrangements for implementing the third phase shortly, explaining that the emergency and reconstruction teams will commence their work starting Saturday. He noted that the third phase is under the patronage of the Prime Minister, in accordance with his announcement during the inauguration of the second phase of the student housing complex reconstruction project.
