National Committee on Drug Prevention and Addiction Treatment Holds First Meeting

The National Higher Committee for Drug Prevention and Addiction Treatment held its first meeting, chaired by Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim.
The Minister stressed that combating drug abuse is a national responsibility requiring coordinated efforts by government institutions, civil society organizations, and relevant stakeholders, describing the growing spread of drugs as a threat to Sudan’s national security. He directed support for addiction treatment centers and called for preparations for a national workshop on drug prevention and addiction.
The committee also emphasized the importance of expanding public awareness campaigns, incorporating drug prevention education into school and university curricula, strengthening legal measures against drug traffickers and dealers, and considering the establishment of a national addiction treatment and rehabilitation center to reduce relapse and protect the country’s youth.
