Higher Education Minister Reaffirms Support for the University of El Geneina

Sudan’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Ahmed Madawi Musa, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the University of El Geneina, praising the stability of academic activities across its learning centers despite the challenges caused by the war.

University Vice Chancellor Prof. Al-Tayeb Ali Ahmed said that 7,469 students are continuing their studies at the university’s centers in eastern Chad under a plan supported by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and development partners. He added that preparations have been completed for the graduation of 1,635 students from health sciences, economics, social sciences, law, media, and education faculties.

The university has also secured a permanent campus in Adré, eastern Chad, along with an additional school to accommodate students, providing a more stable learning environment. Prof. Al-Tayeb highlighted the significant support provided by Sudan’s National Fund for Student Welfare, whose financial and in-kind assistance has helped ease students’ hardships during displacement and enabled them to continue their education.

He stressed that the achievements reflect strong cooperation among the Ministry of Higher Education, the university, the National Fund for Student Welfare, and international partners in sustaining higher education despite the ongoing conflict.
