Health Ministry, IFRC Discuss Stronger Health Partnership

The Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Ali Babiker Sayed Ahmed, met today at the Ministry’s headquarters with the Special Envoy of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Mr. Derk Segaar, accompanied by the Secretary General of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb. The meeting was attended by a number of directors of the Ministry’s general departments.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation across various health sectors and reviewed the efforts of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in delivering health services to citizens across all states, including hard-to-reach areas, reflecting the strong partnership in support of Sudan’s health system.

The Undersecretary welcomed the delegation, reaffirming Sudan’s continued commitment to supporting refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), while emphasizing the importance of mobilizing additional support for the country.

The Secretary General of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society noted that Segaar has long been one of Sudan’s strongest supporters. He previously served in several areas of the country, including El Fasher, and continues to advocate for Sudan in various international forums.

For his part, Mr. Segaar stressed that the decline in global humanitarian funding would not prevent the International Federation from continuing its support for Sudan across health and humanitarian sectors.

During the meeting, the Ministry’s general department directors also briefed the delegation on the current health situation, particularly ongoing disease outbreaks and existing challenges, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation in implementing the country’s rainy season preparedness plan and strengthening epidemic response efforts.
