Following the Army’s Victories, the Quintet Mechanism Calls for Meetings in Addis Ababa

The Quintet Mechanism

concerned with the Sudanese file has extended invitations to a number of Sudanese political forces to participate in closed consultative meetings in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to be held from July 29 to 31. These meetings are part of efforts to advance the political process and bridge the gaps between the Sudanese parties.

These new invitations come within the framework of the mechanism’s efforts to gauge the positions of the political forces and explore opportunities to reconcile their visions, paving the way for the resumption of a political track with broader participation and enhancing the chances of reaching a settlement to the Sudanese crisis.

Political sources stated that the meetings will be held separately with each political group and will focus on discussing mechanisms for coordination among the political components and listening to their views on the participation of various parties in the political process.

The sources added that the invitations included the Democratic Bloc, the “Sumud” group, the National Movement Forces, the National Forces Coordination, and other political forces.

The mechanism, comprising the United Nations, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the League of Arab States, and the European Union, works to support efforts to end the war and facilitate dialogue between the Sudanese parties.

The mechanism had previously informed political forces of the postponement of the next round of consultations until September to allow for further discussions, following the failure of the first round held last June.
